SEMC Technology Competition
The SEMC Technology Competition began to recognize and reward excellence in the use of technology by southeastern museums. The competition encourages innovation, effective design, accessibility, creativity and pride of work, and recognition of institutional identity. Winning entries will be displayed at SEMC’s 2018 Annual Meeting in Jackson (October 8 - 10, 2018) and featured in the SEMC newsletter.

a) Entries must have been created between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018.
b) Open to SEMC active institutional and/or corporate members. Please verify Membership status.
c) Up to 3 entries may be submitted in any one category (21 entries maximum)
d) Deadline for submissions is June 30, 2018.

An entry fee of $15 to cover administrative costs must be paid for each entry. PAYMENT MUST BE COMPLETED ONLINE!!! Go to, Calendar and select Annual Meeting 2018 Technology Competitions Fee Payment Only. Or, mailed separately with copy of your submission confirmation email to: SEMC, PO Box 550746, Atlanta, GA 30355.

Entry Categories
Entries for each institutional category are judged in 7 entry categories. Up to 3 entries may be submitted in any one category (21 entries maximum).
• Applications – Apps (mobile, native, desktop), APIs, games, AR, databases projects
• Media Production – audio tours, podcasts, videos, documentaries, animation
• Gallery installations – kiosks (single or multiple), digital signs, interactive or passive
• Digital Education – teacher sources, distance learning, iTunes U, virtual field trips, badging
• Digital marketing – websites, microsites, social media, blogs, e-blasts, e-newsletters, e-invites
• Student projects
• Campaign (must include three or more pieces related to one project from different categories)

Entry Requirements:
Entry is a two (2) step process:
1. PLEASE COMPLETE THE ONLINE SUBMISSION FORM BELOW! Once completed and submitted, you will receive a submissions confirmation email with the details of your entry. The following are required to complete entry form:
a) An institution may enter up to 3 works in as many categories as desired (21 entries maximum).
b) If more than one entry is submitted, the total number must be specified in the Entry Form’s “Entry Number” (e.g., 2 of 7).
c) Include instructions for download or use of the project, if applicable, along with any necessary credentials or logins.
2. WAIT FOR CONFIRMATION EMAIL WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO SUBMIT SUPPORTING MATERIALS. Additional supporting materials may be submitted and are subject to the following guidelines:
i) Supporting materials are in addition to any files or documents that are integral parts of the project itself.
ii) 1 PDF up to 5 pages which can include captioned images such as screenshots or in-gallery usage, press coverage, mock-ups, etc.
iii) 2 Movies: mp4 or mov, max 30 MB
iv) 2 Audio: mp3, max 5 MB
vi) Supporting videos that are already available via online video services may be submitted as links in the URL fields of the entry form and count towards the total.

Technology Showcase
1. Award winners are given a slot in the SEMC Technology Showcase in order to highlight their projects to their peers.
2. If award winners cannot participate in the showcase or there is additional space in the showcase, nominees will be allowed to display their projects in the SEMC Technology Showcase.

Jurors: A panel representing the museum and technology fields will judge the competition.

Awards: Each category may have a Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention award as deemed appropriate by the judges. JUDGES HAVE THE RIGHT NOT TO AWARD IN ANY CATEGORY.

Notifications: Winners will be notified that they are receiving recognition in sufficient time to register and to make room and travel arrangements for the SEMC 2017 Annual Meeting in Jackson October 8 - 10, 2018. Winning projects are announced at the SEMC Annual Awards Luncheon.
