    POSITION SUMMARY: The Youth Programs Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Education team to develop and deliver educational programming to visiting school groups and manage the front-line, field trip facilitator staff during the school year. These will be either facilitated classroom-based experiences in the sciences or hands-on learning stations located throughout the different museum exhibitions. During the summer months as well as school holidays this individual will oversee camp programming for youth including camp staff. Programs will cover all areas of science, including health and wellness, engineering, marine science, astronomy, physics, and zoology


    • Provides oversight of the enhanced field trip program through staff management, program development (classroom-based and exhibition based), as well as providing direct instruction.  
    • Provides oversight of camp programs that take place during school holidays and teacher planning days through staff management, program and curriculum development, and providing direct instruction when necessary.
    • Supports Guest Services in preparing participants for programs.
    • Develops weekly schedule for program staff and leads necessary training and support.
    • Ensures supplies are ordered, properly organized, and on-hand for program delivery including hands-on elements and associated data sheets.
    • Effectively works with other Museum staff, interns and volunteers to deliver programs to a diverse audience during special events on other specialized program needs.
    • Maintains excellent customer service by maintaining a positive and friendly attitude and through guest interactions by answering questions related to exhibit content, show times, directions, and other general information.
    • Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.
    • Perform other job-related duties as requested.


    • Bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, science, or related field
    • Background and/or strong interest in several scientific areas: health, astronomy, physics, marine biology, etc.
    • Experience working with youth in a museum or other informal learning environments
    • Classroom experience a plus


    • Can effectively manage entry level staff, including schedule management, performance assessment, and training
    • Able to develop educational programs appropriate for school aged youth for both a classroom space and within exhibition spaces
    • Able to develop educational programs with emphasis on learning through active, inquiry-based exploration
    • Can demonstrate strong educational skills and have a demonstrated commitment to delivering scripted learning experiences in addition to developing original programming
    • Can effectively manage groups of students in a positive manner while keeping learning and enjoyment at the focus of the experience
    • Has excellent interpersonal skills
    • Can work in a fast-paced environment with creativity, curiosity, integrity and determination
    • Can demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively share information across and between multiple disciplines and reach audiences with varied technical and organizational knowledge
    • Bilingual a plus
