    Position Summary
    The Tampa Bay History Center is welcoming applications for a full-time Collections Registrar within the museum’s Collections and Curatorial Department. The Registrar acts as the collection and curatorial department’s primary point of contact for donations offered to the museum for the permanent collection and for individuals and institutions offering temporary loans to the museum for exhibition. The Registrar manages the collections and associated collection records as they pertain to both items donated to the collection and institutional materials to be archived. This position administers all of the museum’s collections (including artifacts, library materials, the Touchton Map Library collection, archive collections and the museum’s institutional archive), acquisitions, accessions, deaccessions, conservation assessments, and incoming and outgoing loans. The Registrar also supervises and assists interns and volunteers in the collections and curatorial department.

    The hourly rate for this position is between $21.00 to $23.00, based on experience and qualifications.


    Qualifications and experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in history, art history, museum studies or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar museum position

    Technical or Administrative Knowledge

    • Experience using museum collections software like Past Perfect, Odyssey, etc.
    • Proficiency with registrar and/or curatorial procedures and operations
    • Experience in an office environment using standard office equipment and computer programs and applications
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and logistics as they relate to the museum’s collections and incoming and outgoing loans
    • Emotional maturity; ability to handle confidential information and potentially unsettling materials with professionalism and discretion
    • Ability to work well with the public and staff
    • Ability to acquire new skills such as attending professional workshops and conferences or taking college-level courses
    • Good organizational skills; self-motivated

    Special Skills and/or Abilities

    • Excellent professional ethics as stated in museum accreditation guidelines
    • Ability to accomplish goals while working with numerous priorities
