The Hermann-Grima + Gallier Historic Houses (HGGHH) is a nationally accredited museum with two historic houses in the French Quarter. Both the Hermann-Grima House (built 1831) and Gallier House (built 1859) are involved in ongoing preservation, curation, educational programs, and community involvement. The museum is run by a senior staff and is overseen by an all-female board of managers, The Woman’s Exchange Board.
HGGHH offers college and graduate students the opportunity to gain valuable experience while working closely with museum professionals. HGGHH staff will work closely with interns to provide a positive and educational experience. Interns should expect that each position will include different projects, some of which may be administrative. Successful candidates are self-motivated and can work in structured and unstructured environments.
HGGHH offers unpaid internship opportunities that are subject to departmental need, which will cause opportunities to vary by semester. Internships generally require a 100-hour commitment. Ideally interns will commit to working approximately 7 hours per week over a 14-week period. An intern’s exact schedule can be decided between the intern and their supervisor. Interns are encouraged to arrange for credit through their college or university. HGGHH will assist in a reasonable manner to help interns receive credit.
Priority will be given to graduate students and undergraduate juniors and seniors who have an academic focus that corresponds with available positions. Internship positions require a minimum GPA of 2.75. Placements will also be determined according to applicants’ work experience, academic background, personal and professional interests, and future career goals.
