The Wolfsonian–Florida International University is looking for a Circulation and Reference Librarian. This position coordinates the library’s circulation activities and provides reference services to students, faculty, visiting scholars, and other Wolfsonian patrons. Serving as the welcoming face of the library, this position helps ensure that patrons receive responsive and effective assistance while managing the flow of library materials and maintaining the reading room and other public spaces.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the check-in and check-out of library materials, managing patron profiles and item requests, maintaining reserve shelves, scheduling research appointments, and assisting patrons with the library catalog, online databases, technology, and other resources. The position also conducts reference interviews, provides instruction on the use and handling of materials, fulfills scanning requests, and trains library staff and patrons in the use of library systems.
The Circulation and Reference Librarian also supports collection management through bibliographic data entry, item record creation, shelving, inventory, weeding, and the processing and arrangement of materials. Additional responsibilities include maintaining circulation policies and procedures, collecting statistics on visitors and collection use, and participating in public outreach through tours, presentations, blog posts, and other activities highlighting the library’s collections.
Ideal candidates will have experience with the Alma library services platform, including cataloging, and experience carefully handling rare, fragile, or special collections materials. Familiarity with digitization equipment, imaging standards, and digital workflows is also important. Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop or comparable image-editing software is preferred.
