Exhibition Technician, Upcountry History Museum, Greenville, SC
Full-time, salaried position, plus benefits
Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000
Anticipated Start Date: July or August 2026
Job Summary: The Upcountry History Museum, located in Greenville, SC, (www.upcountryhistory.org) is seeking a full-time Exhibition Technician to support the diverse aspects of an active Museum exhibition department. This position is responsible for providing a program that conveys the Museum's unique identity as the community's history museum and furthers the Museum's mission of connecting people, history, and culture.
The position works closely with the Museum's COO, Facility & Exhibit Manager, Collections Manager, and Education & Program Manager regarding the exhibition and management of the collection, as well as responsibilities associated with traveling and in-house exhibitions, public programming, and general operations.
The position collaborates with a wide range of community organizations and partners and will be enthusiastic about community outreach and making the critical themes of history accessible to the public.
Job Responsibilities:
- Directly involved in the preparation, planning, development, installation/deinstallation, and maintenance of Museum exhibitions (semi-permanent, temporary in-house, and traveling). Involved with transportation, gallery preparation, and the installation and deinstallation of exhibits and artifacts; as well as assisting with research, writing, and updating of exhibit content to ensure accuracy and visitor engagement.
- Assists Facility & Exhibit Manager, with day-to-day exhibition and facility needs.
- Assists Collections Manager, as needed, with condition reports, and the preservation, research, interpretation, and display of historical artifacts and collections.
- Assists Education & Program Department, as needed, with public engagement (field trips, programs, events, and lectures) to ensure the accessibility and educational value of museum resources and exhibitions.
- Assists Marketing Department, as needed, with media inquiries and interviews. Publicly represents the Museum and assists with developing and providing informational and interpretive services to visitors.
- Oversees interns and volunteers assisting with exhibition responsibilities.
Required Qualifications:
- BA in American History, Art History, Museum Studies, related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Experience working in a museum, historical society, historic site, or other public history venue.
- Demonstratable research and writing experience; excellent writing and communication skills.
- Project management and museum exhibition experience.
- Ability to summarize and present historical information in an engaging manner.
- Ability to work with co-workers, interns, volunteers, and the public professionally, respectfully, and tactfully. Ability to support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner.
- Must be willing to help others succeed and be respectful of deadlines.
- Possess a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle.
- Basic understanding of construction tools.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with historical research and museum best practices.
- Demonstrated creativity in developing exhibitions that engage a broad public audience.

Work Conditions: Work is performed under usual office conditions. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping and heavy lifting (50 pounds or greater) are associated with the position.
