    Position Summary

    The Communications Manager at Baton Rouge Gallery – center for contemporary art (“BRG”) helps drive and elevate the public conversation around contemporary art in Louisiana’s capital city. This position aids BRG in its mission-driven work by facilitating marketing, branding, and communication strategies that promote the organization’s events and exhibitions, its impact, and its artists. This role requires an organized, creative, and motivated individual ready to actively engage in the community to expand BRG’s reach and resources.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Duties and responsibilities presented here are not intended to serve as an exhaustive list, but are indicative of the roles this position will play as it relates to its core responsibilities.

    - Oversee all marketing and external communications for the organization, ensuring cohesive and effective promotion of its initiatives, events, and brand;

    - Ensure the successful composition, design, and scheduling of a multi-channel communication strategy to provide timely and relevant updates via email newsletters, social media, print/digital collateral, and organic/paid media, among others;

    - Update and maintain the organization’s website (via Squarespace), on-site promotional graphics, direct mail pieces, digital signage, and other regularly changing platforms to ensure accurate and timely information sharing;

    - Collaborate with fellow staff members on communications directly tied to their specific areas of influence (i.e. working in tandem with the Exhibitions Director on promotional material focused on upcoming exhibitions);

    Development Communications

    - Support fundraising and development staff by creating compelling development collateral, donor newsletters, case statements, and impact reports;

    - Support funder relationship management by assisting in the preparation of materials for donor meetings, grant reports, and other communication materials to ensure consistent, accurate, and timely engagement;

    Media Relations

    - Draft and distribute effective and informative press releases;

    - Engage journalists, publications, and media outlets to amplify messages, initiatives, and programming of the organization;

    As a core team member, the Communications Manager will also assist the entire staff with event preparation and breakdown as well as other duties as assigned.

    Experience/Traits Desired

    - Three years direct experience leading communications efforts for an organization (nonprofit or art-related experience considered a plus);

    - Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public policy, or other related field;

    - Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to share compelling stories and occasionally complex concepts with diverse audiences;

    - Unwavering professionalism and ethical standards;

    - Experience with effective graphic design utilizing Adobe Creative Suite (or similar platform);

    - Proficiency and comfort with Microsoft Office and Squarespace;

    - Comfortable serving as an organizational spokesperson if/when called upon;

    - Demonstrated ability to work with and build connections with individuals from across ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds;

    - Experience with social media, email marketing and website platforms;

    - Active community involvement with strong networking abilities;

    - Willing and able to build and evolve systems and structures necessary to maintain a timely and comprehensive communication strategy;

    - A valid Louisiana driver’s license.

    Physical Requirements

    - Must be able to remain active for an eight-hour workday and occasional 10-12 hour event days;

    - Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include select weekends and evenings in addition to on-site presence Tuesday-Friday;

    - Must be able to work in an outdoor weather environment as necessary for select events, including heat/humidity, cold temperatures, and/or wet conditions;

    - Must be able to exert up to 40 pounds of force to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move objects.

    Compensation & Benefits

    - Base salary range: $58,000 – $64,000

    - SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with employer-matching contributions (after initial 90 days)

    - Up to 80 hours paid time off each year (excluding first 90 days)
