Salary & Term
The internship will be for a maximum of 6 weeks. It shall not exceed 20 hours per week.
$15.00 hourly
Purpose/Role
The Cross-Departmental Internship will assist in various facets of museum work. This will include hands-on experience in collections, education, business, finance, and communications and marketing for a first voice organization. Intern will work across all Divisions at MotCP and in multiple departments.
Responsibilities/Tasks
- Operations: Support in merchandise planning, marketing, and operations for the Museum Store, including R&D for Winter 2025 assortment, social media campaigns, sales tracking, scheduling, personnel coordination, and managing invoices and purchase orders.
- Operations: Collaborate with Manager of External Affairs & Communications and Designer to research, conceptualize, and execute new marketing photography and videography promoting the Museum’s programs and exhibitions.
- Education: Will assist in developing curriculum resources.
- Education: Will assist with community program planning.
- Finance: Will assist with processing and file management of financial policies and procedures.
- Finance: Will learn and assist with inventory management within the store.
- Collections: Will learn the process of preparing materials for repatriation to other Tribal Nations and will assist in building archival boxes to house these materials safely.
- Collections: Will learn the process of accessioning archival and object collections that were donated to the Museum and approved by the MotCP Collections Committee.
Skills/Knowledge/Qualities
- Students must be pursuing or have attained a bachelor’s degree or post-secondary degree in a related field.
- A demonstrated commitment to preserving the history, culture, and stories of the Cherokee People.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Strong computer literacy skills.
- Self-driven initiative and performance of the highest quality, with keen attention to detail.
- Must comply with all MotCP’s policies and procedures.
- Must be respectful of Cherokee cultural protocols and maintain confidentiality in regard to culturally sensitive information.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Other
- Reports across Division depending on assignment.
- Work may be performed in various settings, including climate-controlled museums or archival collections, office settings, or scholarly settings.
- Positions subject to Indian preference policy.
