    Position Summary:

    The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is currently seeking a visionary and highly motivated Curator to work with professionals in the Museum Division, the institution, and the community to cultivate dynamic cultural histories that examine and support connections between people, communities, and baseball. In partnership with the Curatorial team and under the leadership of the Senior Curator, this position will help to shape and implement the Museum’s curatorial objectives that advance the Museum’s vision and mission. Through collecting, researching, presenting, and interpreting the Museum’s rich collection and by understanding baseball in the context of community relevancy and social change, the museum’s Curator will create dynamic, experimental, and innovative explorations of a variety of baseball-related topics across a broad historic landscape.

    Position Type:

    This is a full-time, benefit eligible position that will work in-person at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY. The salary range for this position is $55,000-$80,000 commensurate with experience.     Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    • Assist the Curatorial Department in presenting a dynamic schedule of exhibition content for temporary and long-term installations and associated programming and education initiatives.
    • Assist the Curatorial Department in aligning curatorial goals and objectives with the Museum’s strategic plan.
    • Research, write, and edit exhibition labels, catalogues, and other interpretive materials as needed.
    • Work alongside guest curators and consulting teams.
    • Participate in collection research, growth, management, and care, and help to guide acquisition processes.
    • Assist with donor cultivation and support institutional and departmental funding goals as needed.
    • Participate in public programming and visitor evaluation as required.
    • Develop and oversee curatorial departmental budgets for assigned projects with Senior Curator and other Museum staff.
    • Implement best practices for care of collections and loans with the Curatorial and Collections Departments.
    • Interact with the museum and history communities and serve as an advocate and liaison for the Hall of Fame and Museum.
    • Research and write articles for museum publications.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education/ Experience Requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in History, Museum Studies, Anthropology, or related field; Master’s Degree is preferred

    The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years experience working as a Curator and/or equivalent museum experience; have a general knowledge and understanding of museum and curatorial practices; extensive knowledge of Baseball and American History; be a flexible team-member and leader; possess a willingness to forge and participate in collaborative opportunities; and demonstrate strong research, writing, and editing abilities. Familiarity with collections management systems (e.g., The Museum System) and object care and handling are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills including public speaking, and must be able to work independently, collaboratively, and effectively in a fast-paced and creative environment.
