    Position Summary

    Under general supervision of the Associate Curator, the Assistant Registrar of The Momentary is responsible for registration functions related to contemporary art exhibitions hosted or organized by The Momentary. This position will be responsible for all logistics, loan arrangements, and record-keeping for exhibitions, general incoming loans, and site-specific commissions. For artist residencies at The Momentary, this position may coordinate packing and shipping as needed.

    Principal Responsibilities

    • Manage logistics for incoming loans to The Momentary, including loan agreements, fine-art packing and shipping arrangements, and data entry in the collections database, in accordance with accepted museum standards.

    • Work closely with the Momentarys Visual Arts and Operations staff and living artists to plan for and execute temporary exhibitions, including collaborating cross-departmentally to create installation and de-installation schedules and arrangements for shipping, receiving, storage, packing/unpacking, and couriers.

    • Assist with the development of budgets for exhibitions.

    • Assist with securing loans from artists, galleries, museums and private lenders.

    • Assist with obtaining insurance coverage for incoming loans and exhibitions.

    • Perform incoming and outgoing condition reports.

    • Communicate lenders and exhibition organizers requirements for environment, installation, and security and ensure requirements are met.

    • Provide proofreading and permissions support to Visual Arts and Communications staff related to the reproduction of artwork information and images.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Keep apprised of approved and current museum registration standards as well as basic conservation guidelines for the care and handling of artworks.

    • Act as courier, as assigned, to accompany exhibitions and loans worldwide.

    • Complete all other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and skill required for the job.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education, Training, and Traits

    • Bachelors degree from accredited college or university required, with course work in art, art history, museum studies or related field.

    • Knowledge of contemporary art and a familiarity with artists materials.

    • Knowledge of art handling standards.

    • Ability to understand and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality.

     

    Work Experience

    • Minimum two years work experience in museum registration, exhibition-related preferred.

    • Experience using complex collections database applications, The Museum System (TMS) preferred.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Highly organized and detail oriented

    • Professional and approachable, with excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to work independently, and facilitate teams of diverse personalities.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Experience working with living artists and their representatives

    • Proven experience and success in project coordination and in meeting deadlines within fast-paced working environments

    • Physical demands: Physical demands: Position requires verbal and written conversation with others, sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching and climbing. Position requires working at a desk and utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time and good eye/hand coordination. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision. Position requires use of hands to safely handle and move collection objects according to the most current approved museum standards. Position periodically requires standing for prolonged periods of time.

    • Work Environment: The majority of work will be performed in an office environment and in gallery spaces at the Momentary. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Occasional weekend, evening and night work hours are required.

    The Momentary is a new contemporary art space that opened to the public on February 22, 2020, in downtown Bentonville, Arkansas. A satellite to Crystal Bridges, the Momentary presents visual, performing, and culinary arts. The mission of the Momentary is to champion contemporary arts role in everyday life and explore the unfolding story of contemporary American arts in an international context by actively commissioning and exhibiting outstanding works that explore new ideas and inspire action.
