The Orange County Regional History Center is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Chief Curator. The History Center is a national multi-award-winning, AAM accredited, and Smithsonian affiliated institution centered around its mission: to serve as the gateway for community engagement, education, and inspiration by preserving and sharing Central Florida’s continually unfolding story.
This position performs high-level management and supervisory duties, museum work, and provides connectivity for several programmatic areas of the museum including collections, exhibitions, and education. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Executive Director.
· Manage all aspects of curatorial affairs for museum exhibit, collection, and education department activities. Work and coordinate with department heads, staff, and community stakeholders as necessary.
· Supervise day-to-day building operations. Work closely with Facilities Management to assure that all aspects of the building are fully operational for the public.
· Oversee exhibit design, production, and scheduling.
· Oversee collections development and access.
· Oversee educational programming for all ages, including but not limited to series, camps, exhibition-related programs, etc.
· Interface with and cultivate public and donor contacts.
· Supervise departmental budgets and assist in budget preparation, including all purchasing card expenses in the building. Serve as initial authorization on all expenditures and coordinate purchasing as directed.
· Coordinate all needs of the programmatic areas with other museum departments, including marketing and fundraising, to ensure they have necessary information and assets in a timely manner.
· Oversee building security, cleaning services, and other contract labor positions. Ensure that they operate within budget and see that labor meets customer service expectations of the History Center. Coordinate labor needs with all areas of the Center.
· Assists in other areas and performs other duties as assigned.
Graduation from and accedited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in History, Humanities, Musuem Studies, Public History, or a related field; five years of experience in exhibit and programmatic development and project management; progressive management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
Effective and exceptional written and verbal communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders; comfortable with public speaking; possesses a strong working knowledge of museum best practices.
Selected applicant will be subject to a background screening and fingerprinting and must have favorable results in order to obtain employment. Interview and relocation assistance are not offered.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in History, Museum Studies, Public History, or a related field; three years of progressive management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
Hours Per Week: 40 Hours
Schedule: Generally, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday, evenings and weekends may be required.

$30.27 p/h (based on qualifications)
