    Interpreter & Program Assistant: AmeriCorps

    Historic Castalian Springs has a part-time (900 hours) Interpreter & Program Assistant position

    available in partnership with Appalachia CARES/AmeriCorps.

    Purpose of Position

    ● Engage visitors with mission-based, interpreter led tours of the historic house museums

    of Historic Castalian Springs

    ● Help to create new and dynamic approaches to increase visitation to and visibility of the

    historic house museums of Historic Castalian Springs

    Key Responsibility Area

    ● Lead tours of the historic house museums of Historic Castalian Springs

    ● In conjunction with staff, assist in developing and implementing public history programs

    ● Assist in the cataloging and care of the collections of Historic Castalian Springs

    ● Attend staff meetings

    ● Participate in training

    ● Assist with research

    ● Be familiar with the 18th & 19th century history of middle Tennessee

    ● Assist with the care of visitor facilities

    ● Operate square payment system

    ● Assist in social media campaigns and other marketing efforts as directed by lead staff

    ● Participate in natural and cultural resource management

    ● Other duties as assigned

    Job Relationships

    ● Will work with Executive Director, Director of Education, and Interpretive Staff of Historic

    Castalian Springs

    ● Will work with Tennessee Historic Commission on a limited basis

    ● Will work with the Historic Castalian Springs Board

    ● Will work with staff of the Appalachia CARES program

    Qualifications

    ● Public speaking skills

    ● Interpersonal & communication skills

    ● Ability to interpret history to a wide audience

    ● Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team

    ● High school diploma & two years of college

    ● Ability to work in spaces without climate control

    Job Details

     Position is open until filled.

     Interpreter & Program Assistant: AmeriCorps is a 900 hour assignment to be completed

    over the course of either 6 months (working 39 hours per week) or 8 months (working 29

    hours per week) months

     This position is funded through Appalachia CARES/AmeriCorps. Successful candidate will

    be a national service participant of the Appalachia CARES/AmeriCorps program.

     Appalachia CARES/AmeriCorps will provide a $6,996 living allowance. Upon successful

    completion of the program, participants will also earn an educational award of $3,047.50

    that can be applied to existing, qualified student loans and/or future qualified education
