    Position Summary:

    The Gallery Operations Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day operations of the Gallery of Iconic Guitars and the Frederick Hart Studio Museum, including visitor services, administrative duties, and data management. This position has three essential functions: operating the galleries at the Lila D. Bunch Library, providing oversight for student docents, and assisting with special projects and events as assigned.

    Qualifications/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Good customer service and professional communication skills/phone etiquette; Positive attitude with a willingness to assist others; Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel PowerPoint and other internet-based programs; Must be reliable, self-directed, trustworthy, and responsible; The applicant should be observant and constantly aware of his/her surroundings, have good judgment and critical thinking skills. Saturdays and Sundays are required as well as some Holidays.  Additional gallery events will occur throughout the week, and flexibility is desirable.

    Experience

    Previous managerial, customer service, public speaking, or front desk experience is preferred.

    Job Tasks

    • 1.      Open and close the gallery spaces, including setting up any signage, ticketing, and queuing areas prior to gallery opening.  This includes liaising with university security. 
    • 2.      Supervise gallery docents and provide support for tours in gallery spaces.
    • 3.      Welcome visitors and inform them of gallery policies, answer guest questions, provide wayfinding instructions and encourage engagement. Sell tickets to gallery spaces.
    • 4.      Provide timely communication with the University Archivist and Learning Spaces Coordinator regarding tours, docents, collections, and any security issues.
    • 5.      Manage gallery events as directed
    • 6.      Assist with front-line scheduling in partnership with the Learning Spaces Coordinator.
    • 7.      Assist the Gallery Curator with object care - including occasional cleaning of pieces and exhibit set-up.
    • 8.      Special projects as assigned – which could include research or inventory related tasks in addition to others.

    Schedule:

    Saturday: 9:45am – 4:30pm

    Sunday: 1:00pm – 4:30pm

    Monday: 9:00am – 4:30pm

    Weekly scheduled hours are 17 plus additional hours of flex time up to 20 total to help cover events and additional gallery needs.

    Pay:

    $20 per hour
