    The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts (AMFA), located in Little Rock, AR, seeks a Controller to support the institution during a transformative era that includes the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility, scheduled to open in 2022.  An outstanding opportunity awaits a finance leader with operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem-solving and change management.

    Designed by the renowned architecture firm, Studio Gang, the new facility will secure the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts’ position as one of the top cultural institutions in the state and region. The new AMFA will feature state-of-the-art galleries, Art School, theater, lecture hall, outdoor event area, and other spaces to host programming, classes, and performances. The innovative Cultural Living Room, restaurant, store, and landscaped grounds will position the AMFA as a cultural hub for Little Rock and the region.

    The Controller ensures sound financial management for the AMFA and will lead all finance, accounting, and business office functions, including bookkeeping and payroll.  They will be a thought leader about organizational matters, overseeing and directing policies and procedures related to operations, and leading efforts for process improvements and performance enhancement throughout the organization.  The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with the Executive Director and department heads across the institution to achieve both departmental and organizational goals.

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with CFO and Executive Director to ensure that financial systems, analysis and reporting effectively support AMFA’s financial information needs, long-range financial plans, and compliance.
    • Develop the finance, accounting and business office infrastructure for the museum in preparation for the opening in 2022, in efforts to support expanded capacity and to ensure long-term organizational stability.
    • Maintain accounting control over the annual operating budget, capital campaign, and a growing endowment.
    • Manage day-to-day financial activities, such as purchasing and accounts payable/receivable; cash management; payroll; and processing and integration of revenue activity into financial systems.
    • Coordinate annual museum budget preparation.
    • Prepare and monitor and grant project budgets in coordination with Grants Manager and Development Department.
    • Manage banking relationships.
    • Prepare, analyze and present timely and accurate financial and statistical reports for internal and external stakeholders, including Board and Finance Committee, executive management, and department heads.
    • Coordinate the annual audit and preparation of the 990 with independent CPA firms.
    • Coordinate annual insurance policy renewals.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Candidate Profile:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and/or a degree with equivalent experience.
    • CPA certification or MBA desired.
    • Five or more years’ experience in financial and/or operational management.
    • Supervisory experience and an ability to work with direct reports and cross-departmentally to establish goals, coach, evaluate and guide professional development.
    • Superior analytical and project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and effectively with strong follow-through.
    • Ability to represent the museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism, adhere to museum policies, and support management decision making in a positive, professional manner.
    • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt easily to handle emergent requests.
    • Hands-on experience with financial software.
    • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft 365 product suite.
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects.
