Position Title: Program Specialist (External Affairs)

The National Museum of African American History & Culture is currently conducting a national search for a Program Specialist, who will report to the Associate Director for External Affairs and will be responsible for providing budget, financial, and administrative support. This position will serve as a liaison between the Associate Director and her subordinate units, which include Offices of Advancement, Education, Communication/Public Affairs, Special Events, and Social Media. Duties and responsibilities include the following: supporting and advising the Associate Director on projects and programs within the office and advises on status of the same, arranging a variety of conferences and meetings including travel arrangement for the Associate Director as well as invitational travel for guests, ensuring all documents comply with local procedures and established guidelines and correctness of grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and terminology, monitoring the use of expenditures of budgeted funds, and ensuring smooth and continuing communications and liaisons with a wide range of colleagues within the Smithsonian, executives, and managers in subordinate organizations, and representatives of numerous external organizations, both nationally and internationally.
