The Tampa Bay History Center (TBHC) is one of Tampa’s premier cultural venues and an anchor of the Tampa Riverwalk on Water Street. TBHC has three levels of exhibit galleries that take visitors on a journey through time. Patrons have the opportunity to engage with history talks that transform learning into a quest for knowledge or join public events that go beyond entertainment, fostering a connection to the collective history and future.

TBHC, a Smithsonian Affiliate and an American Alliance of Museums accredited museum, reaches 1.4 million people through programming, visitation, outreach and services every year.  The Center features multiple exhibition galleries, three theater experiences and provides content that spans more than 12,000 years of Florida history. Beginning with a look at Florida’s first peoples, who inhabited the peninsula some 10,000 years ago, to the arrival of European explorers in the 1500s, to Tampa’s modern role as a port city, to being a draw for tourists and visitors the world over, the History Center tells the story of the Tampa Bay region’s and Florida’s history, heritage and culture.

For almost 20 years, TBHC has enjoyed consistent, steady leadership under the guidance of their long-tenured President & CEO. The organization has a commitment to being a stable institution but not one that rests on its laurels; there is a deep dedication to continued excellence and innovation. The next leader will enjoy the opportunity to work at a financially sound institution with an exceptional reputation and a very sound foundation from which to reach the next level of organizational success and outreach in the community.

The next leader will have the opportunity to lead the next generation of experiences at the History Center, to build upon the core programming and to successfully lead the organization into a new era of mission fulfillment.

The President & CEO reports exclusively to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for implementing the policies and procedures adopted by the Board, serving as its source of information for all of the Center’s administrative and operational functions and activities. The President & CEO cultivates and maintains successful working relationships with major funding sources including individuals, corporations and foundations as well as County, City and State officials. He or she is responsible for planning, submitting and managing an annual operating and capital budget as approved by the Board as well as developing and implementing an ongoing plan for hiring, development and management of staff resources for the Center. The President & CEO serves as the chief advocate, ambassador and spokesperson for the Center in the community and participates in appropriate civic activities beneficial to the Center.

Tampa Bay History Center seeks a proven, senior leader with experience in a similar position in a museum, science center, the themed/public attraction industry or related non-profit organization. This individual’s background and experience must include strong business management skills with broad experience managing a full range of operating departments and functions and demonstrated instincts about choosing successful paths for institutional growth, development and sustainability.

A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree in a related field is strongly preferred. A minimum of ten years of progressive experience managing an organization of equal or greater complexity is required as is a minimum of five years of supervisory experience.

The salary range for this position is between $300,000 – 325,000 and will be commensurate with experience. The full compensation package will be inclusive of a board-designated annual bonus.
