     Are you an experienced science professional looking for a new opportunity? We invite you to join our Cape Fear Museum team and help us create engaging and educational science content and experiences for our visitors. As the science content developer, you will research and create accessible scientific content to support Museum exhibits, programs and publications. You will also develop successful interpretive strategies and interactives for exhibits. This is a unique opportunity for an imaginative, creative, and experienced science professional and gifted communicator.
     
    A department of New Hanover County, Cape Fear Museum of History and Science collects, preserves and interprets objects relating to the history, science, and cultures of the Lower Cape Fear. The Museum makes those objects and their interpretation available to the public through educational exhibitions and programs.

                                                             ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Effectively communicate science content to a wide audience.
    • Develop engaging, educational, and accurate facilitated and un-facilitated museum experiences that reflect input from the public, the Museum staff and experts in the STEM community.
    • Collaborate with team members to develop and produce exhibits and programs. Support a cooperative work environment with all Museum colleagues.
    • Assists in the planning and development of exhibits by providing the scientific perspective for topics and prioritizing and recommending research projects.
    • Participate in the design and implementation of an effective program of prototyping and testing of exhibit and program components.
    • Conducts and oversees science-based research.
    • Stays informed about developments in informal STEM education, sharing knowledge with colleagues, and enhancing the Museum's ability to innovate and advance its mission.
    • Contribute to the development of successful grant proposals by researching and writing as assigned.
       
      KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
      Ability to read and understand scientific literature and communicate scientific principles. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to write clearly, concisely, and imaginatively. Skilled in using computers and applicable software. Ability to work successfully in a team environment as well as independently. Knowledge of evaluation methods in informal education settings. Knowledge and skill in museum exhibit methodology.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

    Bachelor's degree in the sciences and 3-5 years of experience in exhibit and program development for informal science or similar setting. Master's degree preferred. Demonstrated experience in research and science writing for diverse public audiences. 

     

     

    Licenses/Certifications:
     

    Valid NC Driver's License 

     

     Priority consideration will be given to applicants that apply by Wednesday, December 13th.

    The hiring range for this position is $41,903 to $46,000 Annually
