AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR MUSEUM VOLUNTEERS (AAMV) (AG)
The AAMV is the only national association, which represents over 400,000
volunteers in all categories of museums. The AAMV is affiliated nationally with
the American Association of Museums (AAM), the United States Federation of
Friends of Museums (USFFM) and internationally with the World Federation of
Friends of Museums (WFFM).
The purpose of AAMV is: to promote professional standards of volunteerism, to
provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information, to offer
opportunities for continuing education through panel discussion and workshops,
to encourage volunteers and volunteer managers to become familiar with projects
and programs both locally and nationally, to inform and represent volunteers in
advocacy for tax benefits and other legislation at the local and national

ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY MUSEUMS & GALLERIES
(ACUMG) (AG)
ACUMG is a network of museums and galleries affiliated with academic
institutions throughout North American. Organized in 1980, ACUMG addresses the
issues that are relevant and unique to college and university museums and
galleries of all disciplines including art, history, natural history, and
science. Issues include governance, ethics, education and exhibits, management,
strategic planning, support, collections, and professional programs. The
Association supports continued improvement of professional and ethical standards
and practice through the ACUMG newsletter, periodic surveys, national and
regional conferences, and sessions at AAM and other professional organizations.

COMMITTEE ON AUDIENCE RESEARCH AND EVALUATION (CARE)
(SPC)
The AAM Committee on Audience Research and Evaluation is a group of evaluators,
curators, exhibit designers, educators, managers and others who believe that
understanding visitors is an essential part of the planning and operation of
museums and other public access cultural institutions. The Committee plays an
active role in the AAM and regional conferences by promoting papers, panel
sessions and workshops related to visitor studies.

COMMITTEE ON MUSEUM PROFESSIONAL TRAINING (COMPT) (SPC)
COMPT, an AAM standing professional committee, serves as an organization and
forum for discussion, study and dissemination of knowledge on professional
training (academic and other) for those aspiring to or employed in museum and
other institutions. COMPT also provides assistance and direction for the
professional enrichment and advancement of all persons working in museums and to
promote the goals of the museum community according to the standards and ethics
upheld by AAM.

SEMC DEVELOPMENT AND MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE (DAM) (SPC)
DAM’s purposes are to strengthen the standards and the practice of development
and memberships programs within southeastern museums and to increase awareness
among museum trustees and professional staff of the importance of
development/membership to the museum’s fulfillment of its public
responsibilities, achievement of its long-range goals, and the assurance of its
financial well being. DAM’s purpose is networking, where professional colleagues
facilitate the exchange of ideas, information and experience. meeting.

EDUCATORS COMMITTEE (EDCOM) (SPC)
EdCom represents the concerns and needs of museum educators within the AAM by
participating in policy and decision making discussions at the national level,
and by selecting and planning programs for the annual and regional meetings.
EdCom also promotes communication among museum educators nationwide through
publications for museum educators, advocates the support of museums and their
educational purposes, and provides excellence in learning.

The mission of HHMAG is to address issues that are of interest to historic house
museums by providing educational programming, workshops, and networking
opportunities for the staff and volunteers associated with historic house
museums in the twelve states comprising SEMC.

MUSEUM STORE AFFINITY GROUP (AG)
The mission of the Museum Store Affinity Group is to stress the importance which
stores provide to museums that enhance the educational value of both the museum
and their exhibitions. Goals to achieve include:: presenting a program at annual
meeting on or about museum stores which incorporates the museum store as a vital
part of each museum and its contributions to the whole; contributing photographs
and articles in each issue of “Inside SEMC” showcasing a variety of member
museum stores and their products; and encouraging directors and curators to work
with stores in order to promote exhibitions through product development and
educational information.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR MUSEUM EXHIBITIONS (NAME)
The National Association for Museum Exhibition (NAME) is a SPC of AAM, dedicated
to advancing the exhibits profession. NAME's mission is to enhances the cultural
landscape by advancing the value and relevance of exhibitions through dialogue
among individuals, museum leaders, and the public. NAME promotes excellence and
best practices, identifies trends and recent innovations, provides access to
resources, promotes professional development and cultivates leadership for
exhibit professionals.

PR & MARKETING COMMITTEE (PRAM) (SPC)
The Public Relations and Marketing Committee is a Standing Professional
Committee of the American Association of Museums. Its mission is to advance the
network of museum professionals in public relations, public information,
marketing, audience development, and communications. The committee works to
elevate the standard of practice in public relations and marketing and to create
awareness and understanding of the practice among other museum professionals and
board members. The Committee updates members about the latest issues affecting
museums and their audiences; shares ideas and innovations with colleagues;
selects and plans sessions at the AAM annual meeting and regional conferences;
and hosts receptions and joint issues luncheons.

SEMC CURCOM (CURATORS’ COMMITTEE) (SPC)
The SEMC Curators’ Committee exists to serve those museum professionals in the
Southeast who are involved with collections, research and exhibitions. The
committee chiefly provides a community of peers with whom to discuss
professional topics of current interest or concern and serves as a network for
research and other professionals’ queries. The committee sponsors an annual
exhibition competition.

SERA is an affiliate of The Registrars Committee of the AAM. Organized in 1978
to encourage high standards of museum practice and to foster professional growth
among registrars in the Southeast, SERA promotes the exchange and dissemination
of information and ideas on registrarial functions through educational seminars,
publications and other means. SERA offers a unique opportunity to meet and work
with colleagues, share special expertise, establish standards of professional
practice, and help shape the profession.

SOUTHEAST REGIONAL CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION (SERCA) (AG)
The major focus of Southeast Regional Conservation Association, Inc. (SERCA) is
to educate caretakers of cultural property and their communities about
preservation as an ongoing responsibility, as well as raising an awareness and
support for conservation. SERCA will focus on providing conservation
professionals with opportunities for collegial exchange at an annual meeting.
SERCA hopes to improve access to conservation expertise through outreach
activities to cultural repositories--particularly to areas which have had only
limited exposure to professional conservation.
One of SERCA's chief interests is to assist caretakers of cultural property in
effectively responding to disasters. SERCA's ultimate goal is for each
collecting institution in the Southeast to have a realistic emergency
preparedness plan.

SMALL MUSEUM ADMINISTRATOR’S COMMITTEE (SMAC) (SPC)
SMAC, founded in 1987, is an advocate for museums in North America whose annual
budgets average under $350,000. Their purpose is to raise awareness about the
significant role small museums have in society. SMAC endeavors to serve its
members by increasing small museum visibility on local, regional, and national
levels. They provide information and access to resources that enhance the
quality of small museum operations and services.
